Patrick was joined by a star-studded line-up on Friday night but it was Troy Parrott’s granny Josie sat in the audience that got people watching at home talking
Late Late Show viewers say one “absolutely brilliant” guest stole the show on Friday night.
Host Patrick Kielty was joined by the likes of Richard Osman, Kyla Cobbler, Vittorio Angelone and Lisa McHugh in studio.
But it was one “legend” at the top of the RTÉ show that got people talking.
At the top of the show, Patrick interviewed some of Troy Parrott’s family members after a whirlwind week for the football star.
Troy was our hero goal-scorer in games against Portugal and Hungary to secure a World Cup play-off, as the nation holds it’s breath to see if we qualify in March.
Patrick chatted to his mum Jennifer, granny Lilly and aunt Sarah, but it was his granny Josie that won over viewers at home.
“You are a star yourself this week. You made it on the news,” Patrick told Josie.
Josie simply replied: “Yeah, I went pub crawling,” as the audience immediately burst into laughter.
“I seen [Troy’s first goal] in Murrays. I left there to go to Judges and on the way over he scored so I missed that [second goal].
“For the third goal I was in Judges and got a free pint. The atmosphere was great.
“Then I went to The Bridge Tavern and [the barman] gave me a bottle of champagne and little bottles of wine,” Josie added before quipping, “but I don’t drink that, so he gave me a pint of Heineken.”
Late Late Show viewers loved Josie’s storytelling and took social media to share their thoughts.
“You rock granny Josie,” one person said.
“Granny Josie is a Classic,” added another.
A third person wrote: “Absolutely brilliant.”
A fourth viewer remarked: “Aww brilliant. I love nanna Josie. I’d love to go pub crawling with nanna Josie. Jennifer you are a proud mam, and so you should.”
While a fifth person gushed: “I can’t remember a time I was so Irish proud thanks on Sunday. We all need a lift and this manager is top class. Troy and the lads will bring us back to the USA again!”
