Boston Blue Recap
NYPD Detective Maria Baez was in town when Danny caught a case. It’s hard for them. They’re dating long-distance. It was a few hours by train and even longer by car just to see each other. They tried to meet up when their schedules aligned, but now he was getting called in on his day off.
The detective in her understood. The girlfriend in her wished they had more time together. Danny got called away because they were hunting a thief. A violent thief. The man had broken into several homes by then and his love of violence was increasing with each crime scene.
In fact, Danny’s son Sean thought they had caught the guy. He and his partner pursued what they thought was a man wearing a hoodie. It was actually a young woman in a hoodie out for a jog. Sean body slammed her before he realized his mistake. Her name is Pennelope Bravo. She was beautiful. She was his age.
They shared a love of comics and naturally Sean was interested. There was just one problem. She was a felon. She acted as a lookout for a burglary ring and was charged. She’s still on parole unfortunately.
It’s unfortunate because she really hit it off with Sean. Sean’s partner told him to do everything by the book. He had to bring Penny in. He claimed it was to fill out an incident report when really it was to get her alibi. She was in the clear. The robbery happened five miles away.
He also had to give her file to the detective on the case and that meant handing Penny’s case file over to his father. He hated doing that. He tried to convince his father that she had been ruled out. And Danny picked up on his feelings for the felon.
Danny warned him that a cop couldn’t date a felon. It just wouldn’t work. Danny also got help from Baez on his case. She realized how the perp was breaking in. He was hacking their security cameras. Danny had the cyber unit check it out. The cameras were all hacked by a Rory Flynn.
Or so they thought until they realized that Rory wasn’t tech savvy. He uses his teenage son for help. His son Mickey did hack the cameras. He just didn’t do it to rob the places. He did it because he wanted to catch people getting into accidents and post it on social media. He has over a thousand followers so far.
With Mickey being dumb enough to hack cameras, this meant anyone online could have seen it. They could have seen the gaps in people’s security system and the homeowners be unaware. It was Baez that again came through.
Maybe people don’t recognize anyone standing out because the perp didn’t stand out. He wore a mask when he broke into those homes. He was probably afraid of being recognized. There were the usual people like the mailman. There were also the neighborhood watch guys.
One guy saw the Merricks tied up from a window. He broke a window to break into their home to free them. He injured his hand and that could be his cover for beating up Mr. Merrick. They went to Sam Norquist’s home.
They questioned him. He kept a catalogue of everything he saw out on “patrol”. He wasn’t their guy. He was too gung-ho about assisting cops. He really was just an overzealous guy, but that didn’t mean he didn’t know who they were really after. It was most likely one of his friends on the neighborhood watch.
During their off hours, Danny was finally spending time with Baez. Lena was attending a family dinner. Jonah brought up Sean’s interest in Penny. Sean had already turned down a date with her because of the rules.
It was Jonah who pointed out that rules in Boston were much different than in NYC. Sean was so worried about disappointing his dad that he would let a good thing pass. The others all helped him. They made him see that he couldn’t be afraid of disappointing Danny. Danny just wants him to be happy.
Jonah’s final words to his father was said in anger and slight reluctance. He dropped out of business school. His dad was disappointed that he wanted to be a cop. Though he respected Jonah for sticking by his decision. This gave Sean the push he needed to come clean with his dad.
Danny understood. Love was love. They found out that one of the supposed victims of the robberies was their perp. They arrested him as he was selling the stolen goods to a pawnbroker. They’ve got him dead to rights.
The same for Lena’s friend. Lena has this childhood friend that came to her for a favor. She brought up with her mom at dinner. This friend had a younger brother that got arrested for getting a ride home with his gang buddies. The last time Lena saw him was when he was four.
She still pictures him as four years old. A lot has changed since then. He grew up. He started running with a gang. He was on the gang unit’s radar. He also had no intention of abandoning his buddies if he gets parole instead of prison time. And that meant Lena couldn’t help him.
She had to let him take the charge and she lost a friend while doing so.
But her dilemma wasn’t as big as say Sara’s or their mom’s. There was a leak within the District Attorney’s Office. This leak was helping bad guys evade capture and so Sara had to investigate. She didn’t want to. She warned her mother about it. It was Mae who agreed to go ahead with the secret investigation. It was later revealed that ADA Phillip Beakman was their leaker.
If he gets arrested, all of his cases get reopened and that wasn’t something either Silver woman wanted because he prosecuted the man that killed Mae’s husband and Sara’s father.
They have to decide if they want to pursue things or if they want to bury it.
THE END!
