The TV chef experienced pain while cooking Sunday lunch for his family last weekend and after being rushed to hospital learned he had appendicitis and needed surgery
Donal Skehan says he is on the mend and feeling much better after being rushed to hospital for surgery earlier this week.
The TV chef revealed he needed an emergency operation after falling ill with appendicitis while cooking for his family on Sunday.
Donal has been inundated with support from his fans and followers and has been keeping them in the loop with how he’s doing on social media.
And in good news today, the Dubliner says he is recovering well.
He wrote on Instagram: “The meds [are] working a treat. Had the first post up shower… always helps you come back to life.”
Donal revealed he had been rushed to A&E in a “delightful start to the week” on Monday, thanking the “absolute heroes” working at the Mater Hospital for looking after him.
He explained at the time how he began experiencing uncomfortable pain on Sunday while cooking dinner, and that it “got worse and worse” until he was eventually rushed into A&E.
The dad-of-two told his followers: “Well I’ve now learned all I need to know about the appendix and appendicitis.
“The last 24 hours have been non-stop. Had the opp [appendectomy] last night to have it removed.”
He continued: “Cooked Sunday family lunch for 10 and noticed a pain which got worse and worse.
“Thankful to have caught it early. I hope it wasn’t the sticky toffee pud,” he jokingly added.
“On the mend – thanks for the lovely messages.”
Donal lives in Howth with his wife Sofie and their sons, Oscar and Noah.
The RTÉ star recently admitted it means everything to him and his family to own their home after years of renting.
“To have a place of our own means everything,” Donal told the RTÉ Guide.
“There’s a real sense of home now. I always thought you had to be in London or New York to keep things going, but you don’t, you can dip in and out. Dublin is home base.”
