In tonight’s Watson episode, Watson’s father was in town. Hamish Watson was there with his protégé. They were both jazz musicians. He wanted to help her sign a record deal and so he was taking her to meet a scout in his son’s neck of the woods. Both men thought their relationship was fine. They failed to see it was actually strained.
They don’t talk to each other. They talk to intermediaries about each other. It was usually Watson’s mother who acted as the interpreter. Mary also did it back when she was married to Watson. Now that their divorce, she was claiming to be Switzerland. She takes no sides and this included on the woman that Hamish brought in.
Hamish’s protégé was Annabelle Lee. She stumbled tonight onstage. She also passed out after their performance. Hamish thought it was dehydration. He was hoping she’d get better if she got fluids.
His son took one look at Annabelle and he knew that her condition was much more serious than that. Annabelle has been experiencing intermittent numbness. It’s why she kept stumbling. It’s now progressing to weakness as well. She was sick and getting sicker. She couldn’t make her audition for the record label.
Hamish spoke to his guy. He was in town for several days. Hopefully, Annabelle will be ready by the end of it. That is if the doctors could diagnose her in time. They had a Cat scan done.
They had an MRI completed. They weren’t seeing what was wrong and if they couldn’t see it then they couldn’t treat it. They tried diagnosing her some other way. Adam and Sasha went to Annabelle’s apartment. They found several musical instruments. They found her music diary showing she practices everyday. Sometimes for eight hours straight.
They also found something Annabelle was hiding in an outlet. She was using drugs. They were all questioning how she dealt with the stress and the answer was cocaine.
Adam couldn’t even touch the bag because he knew his limits. He was a recovering addict. He’s been doing well and he couldn’t afford to be tempted right as he was about to get married and become a father. Plus, the drugs could explain all the symptoms that Annabelle was experiencing. John got into it with Hamish about it and Mary broke it up. She reminded him that he needed to talk to Annabelle about her drug use.
Not Hamish. Hamish found out about the drugs. He made Annabelle stopped and she listened. She only had her career thanks to Hamish. Hamish was a music teacher. He got into it after his son was born. He didn’t want to be traveling while raising a kid. So, Hamish’s father offered to let him take over their jazz club.
It runs in their family for several generations that jazz. John plays a little. Jazz just wasn’t where his heart was. His heart was in medicine. His father soon found others to teach. There was a cleaner who cleaned up the music school as her second job. She brought along her daughter Annabelle because she couldn’t afford a babysitter.
Annabelle fell in love with music there. She tried to sing all the highs and lows of Hamish’s performance. He eventually noticed her one day. He offered to teach her for free.
It was thanks to him that she got a scholarship to college. She loves music. She was about to make it into a career when suddenly she got sick. It hadn’t been the drugs to do it either. They ran a tox screen on her and she’s clean. She hasn’t touched anything in the past five days. She worships Hamish. She’d never disappoint him.
Watson later watched a recording of the last time she performed. He saw instantly what was wrong. He went to his father to confirm it and the way she’s playing was causing her ministrokes.
She needed brain surgery. It would be on the left side of the brain. The right side of the brain was where the musicality mostly comes from. Annabella latched onto the word “mostly”. She refused brain surgery. She didn’t want it if it could cause her to loose her abilities. She was willing to risk a stroke just to perform.
That ended up happening when she started practicing for the talent scout. She started having a stroke. Watson was nearby and was able to treat it. Only it was going to get worse if she doesn’t do something about it. She wouldn’t listen to the doctors. Watson knew she’d listen to Hamish. Hamish tried to convinced her to go ahead with the surgery. Sasha also learned that her new uncle was a fake. He was merely a lonely old man that wanted to spend time with someone or anyone in such a case.
The fake uncle was good for one thing because he gave Sasha a photo of her as a baby with her mom.
Hamish also finally got through to Annabelle. She had the surgery and she was back to playing music before long. She was a prodigy. She was bound for greatness and so was Watson.
Watson’s friends upgraded his father’s Wikipedia page to mention that Hamish was the father of world renown geneticist John Watson. Watson was never good with music. He just didn’t have it. He needed to let that go and realize his father disappointment came and went a long time ago. Hamish was now very proud of his son. He sees medicine was his destiny.
THE END!
