Jessie J Breaks Down on Stage Marking 4 Years Since Miscarriage

Jessie J expressed deep emotion during a recent performance while introducing a song that reflects her experience with pregnancy loss.

On Thursday, November 28, the 37-year-old singer became visibly emotional as she marked the four-year anniversary of her miscarriage, as reported by The Daily Mail.

While presenting her new song, “Comes in Waves,” Jessie, whose full name is Jessica Ellen Cornish, shared with her audience how the track was inspired by her personal grief and loss. “Today marks four years since I lost my baby,” she told attendees in the footage. “I don’t know if anyone else has gone through something similar, but if you have, or if you know someone who has, it’s incredibly painful.”

She continued, “You can never truly prepare for this experience. This song is meant for anyone who needs comfort. I hope it can provide solace, just as it has for me.”

Past Reflections on Loss

The “Price Tag” artist has previously opened up about her miscarriage during a May 2022 episode of the podcast “The Diary of a CEO With Steven Bartlett.”

Jessie recounted the moment she was informed by doctors in November 2021 that her baby’s heartbeat had ceased. “I remember going home and not being able to process it,” she reflected.

She described the overwhelming loneliness that accompanied her grief, stating, “It felt like I had been given everything I ever wanted, only to be told, ‘But you can’t have it.’ I’ve never felt so isolated in my life.”

Public Announcement of Pregnancy

In 2021, Jessie had not publicly disclosed her pregnancy, having chosen to embark on motherhood independently. However, she later decided to share her experience on social media following her miscarriage.

On November 24, she posted an Instagram selfie with a pregnancy test, captioning it, “ Yesterday morning I was laughing with a friend, wondering how I would get through my gig in LA tomorrow night without revealing I was pregnant. By the afternoon, I was dreading the thought of performing without breaking down… After my third scan, I was told there was no longer a heartbeat .”

Jessie elaborated on her grief, stating, “I chose to have a baby on my own because it’s all I’ve ever wanted, and life is short. Getting pregnant was a miracle, and it’s an experience I will never forget. I know I will have this opportunity again. I’m still in shock, and the sadness is overwhelming. However, I know I am strong, and I will be okay.”

New Beginnings

After her miscarriage, Jessie began a relationship with basketball player Chanan Colman. In May 2023, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Sky.

“A week ago, my whole life changed,” Jessie shared via an Instagram Story at the time. “My son entered this world and my heart grew twice as large. The feeling is indescribable; I am so in love. He is magic, all my dreams come true, and he is my entire .”

“Both he and I are doing well. I am cherishing every moment and still can’t believe he is real, here, and mine. I am incredibly grateful.”
