Two-thirds of the popular 2FM Breakfast Show team are preparing to tie the knot next summer, although they acknowledge a fair amount of procrastination in their wedding planning.
Roz Purcell and Aisling Bonner from 2FM have shared details about their upcoming weddings, revealing that their ceremonies are scheduled just three weeks apart.
The breakfast show hosts, alongside Carl Mullan, humorously admitted to being equally slow in organizing their wedding plans.
Roz became engaged to her long-time partner, Zach Desmond, in 2023, while Aisling accepted her fiancé Alex’s proposal at the end of the previous year.
With both weddings planned for next summer, the duo is also preparing for the 2FM Late Breakfast Live event with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra next month, although they admit to putting off some planning tasks.
Aisling commented to RSVP Live: “I’m a bit ahead of Roz; we’re getting married very close together—about three weeks apart. We’re both quite slow in getting things moving, but I have secured the venue, photographer, and DJ. I even found my dress, which was the most exciting part. However, finer details still need to be finalized. There has been a lot of procrastination, but it will all come together eventually.”
Roz added: “We share the same mindset about our weddings: ‘It will get done when it gets done, and it will be fine.’ Neither of us feels significant pressure. Aisling is getting married in about seven months, and I’m getting married in six, yet I have only half the arrangements in place compared to her.”
“We enable each other to procrastinate,” Aisling joked.
Roz plans a modest wedding with Zach, opting for a simple dinner rather than a grand celebration.
She stated: “Zach and I are having a very intimate wedding, likely just a dinner. Our lives are quite hectic, so we won’t be having a large band or party afterward. I never envisioned a wedding growing up, so I’m still figuring out what I want. Each week my ideas change as I speak to different people about weddings.”
“What we both agreed on is that we want a very small wedding in Ireland. We don’t want our guests to feel pressured to travel abroad or take too much time off work to celebrate with us. We prefer no gifts, as we don’t need anything and want our guests to simply enjoy the day without feeling obligated.”
Aisling, on the other hand, will hold her ceremony in Dublin city center.
She explained: “I’m having a Dublin city wedding, which is meaningful for us as Alex and I live in town. He’s American, and no other location in Ireland makes sense for us, so we’re sticking to the city.”
Following their wedding, Aisling and Alex plan to travel to the United States for their honeymoon, as they have a busy summer ahead.
“I’ve got an adventurous honeymoon planned,” she remarked.
“Since my fiancé Alex is American, we expect many guests from the U.S. at our wedding, so we didn’t want to leave right after when they’re all still around. We’ll spend a few days with them in Kinsale after the wedding.”
“Eight days after our wedding, we’ll be attending one of Alex’s friends’ weddings in Kentucky, so we plan to fly there and then find an interesting destination for our honeymoon,” she added.
“We’re considering maybe New Orleans. People who have already married might think we’ll be exhausted by then, but we’ll see.”
In contrast, Roz and Zach are contemplating an adventurous honeymoon.
She mentioned: “We haven’t finalized our plans yet, but we’ve always dreamed of hiking across New Zealand for four to five weeks during our honeymoon.”
The RTÉ 2FM Late Breakfast Live with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra is scheduled for December 9th at 8 PM. Tickets are available at www.rte.ie/co
