Jaya Bhattacharya Discusses Departure Rumors from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi
In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Jaya Bhattacharya clarified misconceptions surrounding her departure from the popular TV show “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.” She explained that her exit was not due to dramatic disputes but stemmed from a misunderstanding regarding salary increments. Initially cast for a one-month cameo, her role extended to eight years. Unaware of the annual raises, she only received a minimal increase upon inquiry. Despite her disappointment, her dedication to the show remained steadfast.
Reasons Behind Not Requesting a Pay Increase
Addressing rumors about her departure over pay issues, Jaya stated, “My initial role was a month-long cameo, which unexpectedly extended to eight years. During this period, I was intermittently absent from the show. It was only after returning from a break that I learned about the raises others received. I didn’t even know raises were given.”
She added, “I am often unaware of many worldly matters, which perhaps keeps me content. When I returned, I was told about the raises. I questioned why I didn’t receive one and was informed about a Rs 2000 increment for everyone else. I only received a Rs 1000 raise, which hurt. It made me question my worth, but I accepted it.”
Commitment to Work
Jaya shared her dedication to her work, saying, “Despite feeling undervalued, I had a commitment to my job. Before, contracts didn’t exist; work was based on trust. Even in other projects, there were no written agreements, yet everyone was punctual and dedicated. Nowadays, even contracts don’t guarantee commitment.”
She continued, “I decided not to ask for a raise. If they didn’t see my worth, I wouldn’t demand it. Interestingly, other shows or projects from the same production house offered me triple the amount. In the eighth year, when asked to sign a contract, I reminded them of my unwavering dedication over the years without needing a contract.”
Respecting Her Profession
Concluding, Jaya remarked, “Acting is my love, and working with animals is my passion. These energies are different, yet I respect my work above all. Even without a contract, I continued to work diligently. Whether or not I receive respect, I give my work the respect it deserves.”
Interaction with Ektaa Kapoor
When asked about discussing the pay issue with Ektaa R Kapoor, Jaya responded, “Never. She never mentioned it either. These things don’t affect me. I came to Mumbai with Rs 2000, and now I have achieved what my father couldn’t.”
Jaya Bhattacharya is renowned for portraying the antagonist Payal Mehra in “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi,” a central character during the show’s early years, creating challenges for the protagonist, Tulsi Virani.
