Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest film garnered multiple awards at the National Board of Review (NBR) ceremony on Wednesday.
The Oscar-winning actor stars in Warner Bros.’ “One Battle After Another” as “Ghetto Pat,” a former revolutionary caught in a web of danger while a corrupt colonel, played by Sean Penn, chases his daughter.
The NBR awarded the film five accolades, including Best Film, Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, Best Actor for DiCaprio, Best Supporting Actor for Benicio del Toro, and a Breakthrough Performance award for Chase Infiniti.
Following its success at the Gotham Awards and the New York Film Critics Circle, the film directed by Anderson is a strong contender for the upcoming Academy Awards in March.
The film has been well-received, boasting a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and praise for performances by DiCaprio, Penn, Infiniti, Del Toro, Teyana Taylor, and Regina Hall.
“One Battle After Another” topped the box office in September and has grossed over $200 million globally.
The NBR also recognized ten other films as the year’s best, including “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” “F1,” “Frankenstein,” “Jay Kelly,” “Marty Supreme,” “Rental Family,” “Sinners,” “Train Dreams,” “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” and “Wicked: For Good.”
Rose Byrne, known for “Bridesmaids” and “Neighbors,” was named Best Actress for “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” where she plays a mother dealing with her child’s illness and a strained marriage.
NBR honorees will be celebrated at a gala on January 13 in New York, hosted by NBC News’ Willie Geist, following the Golden Globes in Los Angeles on January 11.
The National Board of Review, established in 1909, is a respected predictor of awards success, with past winners including “Wicked,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “The Social Network,” and “Slumdog Millionaire.”
