Thomas Markle Hopes for Reconciliation with Daughter Meghan
Thomas Markle, father of Meghan Markle, has expressed a desire to reunite with his daughter following the amputation of his leg.
Seeking Reconciliation
In an interview with the Daily Mail on December 6, Thomas, aged 81, stated, “I want to talk to Meghan, but I’m uncertain if the timing is right. I’ve always been open to reconciliation. I’ve never stopped loving her. I don’t want to pass away without mending our relationship. Meeting my grandchildren and her husband would be wonderful.”
Thomas revealed his confusion upon hearing that Meghan attempted to contact him. A spokesperson for Meghan confirmed to Us Weekly on December 5 that she had reached out following his surgery.
Meghan’s representative later clarified to the Daily Mail that she sent an email, though other family members indicated Thomas no longer uses that account.
At Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding in May 2018, only one family member attended. Meghan’s relationship with her family has been strained, though she remains close to her mother.
Us Weekly has contacted Meghan’s representative for further details.
Medical Challenges
Earlier this week, Thomas was hospitalized in Cebu, Philippines, due to a blood clot that led to his leg turning black, necessitating amputation to save his life.
Thomas shared his struggle with the loss, stating, “I can feel a phantom limb. I’ve always been independent, and the thought of being in a wheelchair is daunting.”
He added, “I wake up at night worrying. I’m thankful to be alive, but living without a leg is challenging.”
Recovery will take months, with rehabilitation needed to help him walk again.

Thomas expressed gratitude, “I’m thankful to be alive and appreciate the well-wishers and medical staff. The kindness from the UK has been overwhelming.”
His son, Thomas Markle Jr., announced the surgery, stating, “Dad was brave. His foot turned blue and black quickly. The hospital confirmed amputation was necessary.”
Samantha Markle, Thomas’ daughter, voiced her concerns, describing him as a “strong man” who has endured much, hoping he will recover.
Family Estrangement
Thomas has been estranged from Meghan since before her 2018 marriage to Prince Harry, following a fallout over staged photos. Samantha later admitted to orchestrating the photos to portray their father positively.
In May 2018, Thomas admitted to lying to Prince Harry about the photos during a heated call, acknowledging Harry’s warning about media scrutiny.
Thomas missed the wedding due to heart attacks and has faced health challenges, including a stroke in 2022 and an earthquake in the Philippines, where he relocated to avoid media attention.
