How Triumph’s Reunion Tour Happened

How Triumph’s Reunion Tour Happened

As Triumph prepares to announce their 2026 reunion tour—their first extensive tour in over three decades—we spoke with vocalist and guitarist Rik Emmett, drummer and vocalist Gil Moore, and bassist Mike Levine via Zoom. They shared insights into how the tour came about and what fans can anticipate.

While Triumph has reunited for select performances in recent years, including full concerts in Sweden and Oklahoma in 2008, this marks their first complete tour since 1993. It will also be the first time Moore and Levine tour with Emmett since 1988. Conversations with the band members revealed much excitement.

Reunion Tour: A Long-Awaited Event

Today’s announcement is a dream come true for fans. But for many years, a reunion tour seemed unlikely. What changed?
Gil Moore: It’s a matter of timing. There’s no single reason. The increasing stories from fans about how our music impacted their lives have been compelling. Coupled with global changes, both positive and negative, we felt it was time to listen to our fans. Our songs belong to them as much as to us, and they want to hear them again. We aim to deliver our best performance, even if it’s not perfect. After all, we’re a rock band, and we’re ready to give it our all.

Rik Emmett: You mentioned this is a bucket list event for fans, and that energy is something we look forward to. It’s exciting but daunting. At 72, it’s a big challenge, and I’ll need support to make it happen.

Gil is always brainstorming ways to bring Triumph back to the stage. His passion for the band drives him, and he constantly thinks of new ideas. This internal push has been a significant factor.

Planning the Tour

What’s the timeline for organizing this tour?
Moore: Reuniting began with an idea I had, which evolved over time. Our former lighting director, Paul Dexter, was involved in 3D technology. After seeing his work with holograms for Ronnie James Dio and Frank Zappa, we realized it wouldn’t suit Triumph. Instead, we explored mixed reality technology, adapting it over six years as technology advanced.

Meanwhile, our song “Lay it on the Line” was embraced by the NHL and the National Sports Network. They invited us to perform at a game, which was a thrilling opportunity. It reignited our desire to play live, and Live Nation proposed a tour. The positive fan response convinced us it was the right time.

Rik, how was performing in Edmonton with Phil X, Todd Kerns, and Brent Fitz?
Emmett: It was exhilarating and nerve-wracking. With just one rehearsal, we had to adapt quickly. Dave Dunlop and I have played Triumph songs for years, so I used that experience to guide the new members. The performance for the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame was a highlight, and I’m excited for the upcoming rehearsals.

Mike, you missed the Edmonton show. How do you feel about the reunion?
Mike Levine: It’s been a long journey, and seeing it come together is fantastic. I’ve known Phil for years, and he’s an incredible talent. I’m eager to be involved, whether in person or virtually.

Reflecting on Triumph’s Legacy

The tour marks the band’s 50th anniversary. How do you view that milestone?
Levine: Our early days were about experimenting without boundaries. We recorded everything we had, and our debut album reflected that freedom. It was an exciting time, and making an album in a professional studio was a dream come true.

Gil, having Phil X involved seems to bridge different eras of the band.
Moore: Mike and I have a knack for choosing great guitarists. Seeing Phil and Rik play together was like witnessing rocket fuel in action. It was a thrilling experience from behind the drums.
