Described as “one in a million,” Jamie Gill’s funeral mass took place on Tuesday, following his passing after a battle with cancer. Jamie, aged 33, died on Thursday, shortly after celebrating his first wedding anniversary with Niamh Cullen. The couple, together for over eight years, married in Italy in November 2024, but Jamie fell ill just days into their marriage.
The funeral service, held at St. Vincent De Paul on Griffith Avenue, Dublin, was followed by a burial at Balgriffin Cemetery, as reported by the Irish Mirror. Jamie was eulogized as a “true gentleman” during the ceremony.
Jamie’s mother, Barbara, and wife, Niamh, shared a heartfelt reflection titled “The Stars Called You Home” during the service.

The reflection read: “For Jamie. The stars called you home, love, up high so far away. I think they missed your brilliance, they just couldn’t let you stay. You’ve shone that light of yours love, on all the lives you touched.”
Jamie’s father, Hugh, expressed gratitude to the priests and funeral team at St Vincent de Paul, as well as the staff at St Francis Hospice, for their “kindness, empathy, and warmth.” Jamie’s brother, Hugh Jr., delivered a eulogy.
“We wish to thank the staff of St Claire’s ward in Beaumont Hospital and the team at St Francis Hospice for their support,” he said. “We also extend our gratitude to friends and family who have supported us during this difficult time.”

In his eulogy, Hugh Jr. described Jamie as “a connector, a facilitator, a fixer, a true one in a million.” He recalled Jamie’s ability to light up a room and his charm that made everyone feel special.
Hugh Jr. added: “Jamie had an innocence and a love for life that was truly endearing. He cherished every moment, whether it was a night out or a chemotherapy session, his smile was always the same.”
Reflecting on the past year, Hugh Jr. acknowledged the challenges Jamie faced after his cancer diagnosis in January. He praised Niamh and their mother for their unwavering care and support during Jamie’s illness.

He concluded by thanking Niamh and their mother for their dedication, saying, “You gave everything and were his everything. Your love and support during this year meant the world to us.”
