Tragic Incident Involving Reiner Family
Rob and Michele Reiner’s son, Nick Reiner, has been arrested on charges related to their deaths. Reports indicate Nick had significant behavioral challenges from an early age.
Early Behavioral Issues
Alanna Zabel, a yoga instructor for the Reiner family in the early 2000s, shared insights into Nick’s behavior. She noted that Nick, now 32, frequently disrupted yoga sessions at their Los Angeles residence.
The disturbances, described as intense and involving screaming, would last around 20 minutes, according to Zabel’s interview with the Daily Mail.
Efforts to Address Behavior
Zabel, who holds a degree in child development, was asked by Rob and Michele to conduct private yoga sessions with Nick in hopes of calming his heightened nervous system.
She described Nick as a boy with behavioral issues, often agitating those around him but trying to understand his own behavior. Zabel focused on physical activities to help him feel accomplished, though she found him inexhaustible.
Potential Underlying Factors
Zabel speculated whether ADHD might have been a factor, as it can increase the likelihood of substance abuse. Nick has struggled with drug addiction for much of his life.
She emphasized the need for disarming such energy and noted that many children with similar intensity grow into well-adjusted adults.
Challenges of Hollywood Lifestyle
Zabel highlighted various factors influencing child behavior, including genetics and the pressures of living in Hollywood, where drugs are easily accessible.
She suggested that despite the Reiners’ efforts to address Nick’s issues, he perceived his circumstances negatively, adopting an egocentric mindset.
Family’s Efforts and Legacy
Zabel believes Rob and Michele provided appropriate guidance, tackling issues directly despite their busy lives. However, Nick’s personal choices may have contributed to his struggles.
This experience inspired Zabel to write “A Chair in the Air,” a children’s book about a boy named Nicky with big feelings and energy.
Zabel shared that the Reiners approved her storytelling but chose not to engage in the book’s publication, following their therapist’s advice.
She concluded by emphasizing the importance of attention for children to thrive, urging parents to be present and attentive.
Rob Reiner was 78, and Michele was 68. They are survived by their children, Jake Reiner, 34, and Romy Reiner, 28, as well as Tracy Reiner, 61, Rob’s adopted daughter from his first marriage.
