CBS’s Watson returns tonight with a new episode on Sunday, December 15, 2025. This is the tenth episode of the second season, titled “Never Been CRISPR’d.” Below is a detailed recap of the episode.
Episode Overview
In this episode, Watson deals with the return of his biohacker friend Hobie, who rushes his girlfriend to the Holmes Clinic after a gene-editing experiment goes awry. Meanwhile, Watson grows suspicious of Sherlock.
Plot Details
Watson begins to question the honesty of those around him, including Sherlock and Shinwell. He also contends with Hobie McSorely, a gene hacker known for his glowing chest due to body modifications. Hobie’s experiments have not faced legal restrictions, allowing him to continue without oversight. However, his new girlfriend, Wendy, suffers adverse effects from a gene-editing procedure.
Hobie, recently divorced, quickly falls for Wendy, who shares his interest in body modifications. After meeting for the first time, they express their love and proceed with Hobie’s CRISPR Mod injection, which causes Wendy to collapse and enter a coma. Watson, as a favor to Hobie, takes on Wendy’s case to determine the cause of her condition.
Wendy’s modifications, including magnetic fingers and a device affecting her body temperature, are investigated. Despite the rapid progression of their relationship, Hobie insists his feelings for Wendy are genuine. When Wendy regains consciousness, she reaffirms her consent to the procedure and exonerates Hobie from blame.
Wendy’s health deteriorates further, with kidney failure and potential loss of voice. Tests reveal her x chromosomes are damaged, linked to previous CRISPR attempts. The root cause of her condition is traced to a reaction to fava beans, as she has G6PD deficiency.
With proper medication, Wendy starts to recover, but becomes allergic to Hobie’s modifications. To be with her, Hobie decides to reverse his own modifications, despite the risks.
Personal Challenges
Hobie offers Watson advice on love, encouraging him to act on his feelings for Mary. However, Watson discovers Mary has moved on. Meanwhile, Sherlock’s mysterious behavior raises concerns about his health, prompting Watson to seek him out for testing.
Ingrid ends her relationship with Beck, who is revealed to be obsessively impersonating Sasha’s biological mother to gather information, possibly linked to a deceased uncle with government ties.
