Male solo artists lead, but three female solo artists and two groups have also reached this milestone.

Morgan Wallen’s I’m the Problem leads Billboard‘s Top Country Albums chart (dated Dec. 6) for the 28th consecutive week. This increases Wallen’s career total of weeks at No. 1 to 214, solidifying his position as the artist with the most weeks at No. 1 in the chart’s 61-year history.

Wallen’s accomplishment is notable for achieving this total in a relatively short period. He first reached the top of the chart on Aug. 15, 2020.

The Top Country Albums chart began as Hot Country Albums on Jan. 11, 1964, in Billboard. Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire (The Best of Johnny Cash) was the first to lead the chart. The compilation was timely: “Ring of Fire” had topped Hot Country Songs for seven weeks the previous summer and crossed into the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The chart was named Hot Country LP’s from 1968 to 1984, during the era of vinyl LPs.

Twenty-one artists have spent 50 or more weeks at No. 1 on Top Country Albums. Male solo artists dominate, though three female solo artists and two groups have also achieved this. (One of the groups is all-female.) Only one Black artist has reached 50 or more weeks at No. 1, though this may change as country becomes more inclusive.

Here’s a look at the artists who have topped Top Country Albums for 50 or more weeks.
