Hasleen Kaur’s Eventful Year with “Ruthless Bastards”
2025 has proven to be a significant year for actress Hasleen Kaur. Her international film, Ruthless Bastards, recently premiered digitally in global markets, receiving an overwhelmingly positive response. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Kaur discussed the film, her experiences working in Hollywood, and more.
About the Film
Can you tell us about Ruthless Bastards and the feedback you’ve received?
The film features Hollywood veterans Casper Van Dien and Sean Patrick Flanery. Van Dien, known for Starship Troopers (1997), was an iconic action hero, and it was thrilling to perform action scenes with him. The dynamic between the actors has been well-received, elevating the film’s appeal.
The plot delves into the gritty world of North American gangs, including Chinese, Russian, and Indian factions. I portray a member of the Indian gang. Directed by Bruce Fontaine, known for his work with Jackie Chan, the film’s direction has been praised.
Unexpectedly, platforms like Apple TV and Prime Video picked up the film, and my role as Ishanna Sidhu has garnered appreciation. There is already interest in a sequel, possibly titled Ruthless Vixens, focusing on female assassins in high-octane action.
Release Plans in India
When will Ruthless Bastards be available in India?
Efforts are underway to release it on Indian platforms. The initial strategy was to debut in the U.S. and parts of Europe to gather feedback, which would support further releases in India and China.
Experiences in Hollywood
What differences did you notice working internationally?
The punctuality on Hollywood sets is remarkable. I once arrived slightly late and was reminded of the importance of timing, as schedules are meticulously planned. Tasks like costume trials and hair and makeup are timed to the minute, ensuring efficiency.
Overtime is compensated at 1.5 times the regular rate, and meal penalties are issued if meal times are missed due to work. These strict rules ensure accountability and punctuality across all roles.
Indian Film Industry Standards
What are your thoughts on implementing an eight-hour shift, as advocated by Deepika Padukone?
I believe respecting time is crucial. While large projects require extensive work, much time is wasted on set. Implementing stricter time management could reduce working hours from 12-14 to a more balanced schedule, benefiting all involved.
Venturing into Marketing
What inspired you to start a marketing agency?
I founded Creative Cultr in November 2017, following my earlier venture in digital marketing. We handle campaigns, social media, and brand identities for various brands, including CNN IBN and Network18. My passion for advertising and PR complements my acting career, allowing me to pursue both fields simultaneously.
