Joe Perry Sheds New Light on the Future of Aerosmith

Aerosmith has had a remarkable year, highlighted by participating in a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne at the MTV VMAs and releasing their first new music in over ten years with the collaborative EP One More Time featuring Yungblud. In a recent interview with Guitar World, founding guitarist Joe Perry shared insights about the band’s future.

Insights on Aerosmith’s Future

During the interview, published online on December 5, Perry was asked about the possibility of performing songs from One More Time live and whether there are plans for a final Aerosmith show or a few performances with Yungblud.

Perry stated:

There are various ideas being considered. Currently, we’re discussing the possibility of at least one show that would coincide with a documentary about the band’s history.

We’re still in discussions. Steven is traveling between New England and LA, I’m in Florida, and Yungblud is touring in Europe. We’ve been having a lot of Zoom meetings!

When asked if he is ready to consider their last album as the final chapter, Perry replied: “I don’t view it that way. I approach every show as if it might be the last. You never know what the future holds.”

Perry added: “If this is our final project, it’s a great one. But I’m not done yet, and neither is Steven. We still have some energy left!”

These sentiments are understandable given the band’s recent activities. Although One More Time received positive attention, Aerosmith announced their “Peace Out” farewell tour in 2023, which was later canceled in 2024 due to Steven Tyler’s vocal issues.

In August 2024, bassist Tom Hamilton mentioned: “The future is uncertain, but it won’t involve touring.” However, Tyler made a return to the stage earlier this year, performing Aerosmith classics at his Janie’s Fund Grammy watch party.

Given these circumstances, Perry’s cautious optimism about Aerosmith’s future is understandable, with hopes for exciting developments ahead.

Joe Perry on Yungblud and Their EP

Before discussing Aerosmith’s future, Perry touched on other topics.

He described the latter part of 2025 as “three months of chaos” due to the promotion of One More Time with Yungblud, whose real name is Dominic Richard Harrison. This included “promotion, photoshoots, and rehearsals from morning to night.”

Perry noted that One More Time was unplanned, stating: “The songs are inspired by our collaboration with Yungblud. He’s an incredible talent, so we decided to work together.”

He detailed using a custom-made Fender Vibroverb and other equipment during the EP’s production.

Perry recounted meeting Yungblud through Aerosmith’s manager’s son, leading to a collaboration after a phone call and a visit to Florida.

Yungblud expressed interest in collaborating on his next record, and Perry was impressed by his talent, leading to studio sessions in Florida and LA.

Regarding their performance at the VMAs, Perry explained: “Steven and Yungblud performed at the Ozzy tribute in Birmingham, and it was suggested they do the same for the VMAs.”

Additional Aerosmith News

Recently, Aerosmith and Yungblud teamed up with country star Lainey Wilson for a new version of the track “Wild Woman” from One More Time.

On December 4, Yungblud shared a video discussing the collaboration with Wilson, expressing his admiration for her authenticity and talent.

This collaboration follows a recent partnership with banjo player Steve Martin on a new version of “My Only Angel.”

The possibility of more collaborations or future projects for Aerosmith remains open.
