Tara Reid Addresses Closed Investigation into Alleged Drugging Incident
Actress Tara Reid has expressed her distress following the closure of a police investigation regarding her claims of being drugged at a Chicago bar last month. Reid, known for her role in “American Pie,” described the situation as “truly heartbreaking,” according to her representative’s statement to Page Six on Wednesday.
Allegations and Public Reaction
Reid highlighted the negative impact of public scrutiny and misinformation on her mental health, urging for an end to the harassment. She clarified misconceptions about the incident, stating, “They are making it seem like I chugged all this wine at once and ended up on a stretcher, but after reviewing the footage that is not what happened at all.”
Reid recounted that she only had a sip of wine over 30 minutes and declined another drink when offered. She noted that 33 minutes of footage from November 23, when she was seen in a wheelchair before being taken on a stretcher, were missing.
Police Investigation and Findings
A spokesperson for the Rosemont, Illinois police informed People that the investigation concluded on December 11 due to a lack of supporting evidence for Reid’s claims. They acknowledged that there were periods not captured in the surveillance video but emphasized that they could only evaluate the available footage.
The spokesperson added, “We don’t want to say what she’s claiming is false,” but noted the absence of evidence of tampering with Reid’s drink.
Reid’s Response and Public Perception
Reid, 50, expressed feeling “judged” as the footage circulated in the media, stating she remembers nothing after her first drink. She shared, “I’ve been honest about the fact that I don’t remember anything after my first drink.”
Reid described the experience as painful, noting, “I feel bullied and judged for something I cannot recall. I’m trying to heal, but the public scrutiny is making that very difficult, and I’ve been afraid to even leave my house.”
Initial Incident and Legal Actions
In November, Reid reported an alleged drugging after being seen on a stretcher leaving a Chicago hotel bar. She recounted encountering YouTubers in the lobby and later finding her drink covered with a napkin, which she did not do herself.
Reid claimed she awoke in a hospital, where doctors informed her she had been drugged. She filed a police report indicating her willingness to prosecute, but initial findings from the Rosemont Public Safety Department showed no evidence of misconduct.
Authorities confirmed, “While video surveillance showed Tara Reid at the hotel bar, at no time did video show anyone tampering with or adding something to her drink.” The investigation concluded with no criminal acts identified.
