Taylor Swift Cries in Eras Tour Docuseries Over Vienna, Southport

Taylor Swift became emotional in her Eras Tour docuseries while discussing a thwarted terror attack at her concert and the tragic fatal stabbings of three young fans.

The 35-year-old singer shared her thoughts on these distressing events in the first episode of The End of an Era, which debuted on Disney+ on Friday, December 12.

“It’s a strange feeling going into these last five shows in Europe,” she expressed from her hotel room in London. “We’ve had about 128 shows so far, but this is the first time I feel uneasy. We narrowly avoided a massacre, and it’s been overwhelming.”

Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour spanned from March 2023 to December 2024, with performances worldwide. During her European tour in summer 2024, she faced consecutive tragedies.

In July 2024, a group of young fans attending a Swift-themed dance class in Southport, England, were attacked by 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana. He fatally stabbed three girls: Alice Da Silva Aguiar, 9, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Bebe King, 6. Rudakubana also injured eight other girls, aged 7 to 13, along with the class teacher and a local businessman who intervened. In January, he was sentenced to at least 52 years in prison.

“They were little kids,” Swift said in the docuseries, tearing up. “I’m meeting some of these families tonight and performing a pop concert. I won’t cry. I’ll smile and make sure they don’t worry.”

She continued, “You’re like a pilot. If you panic, everyone else will too. You keep calm and assure everyone, ‘We’ll land safely.’ That’s what The Eras Tour is about.”

Following the attack, Swift shared her condolences in an emotional Instagram Story.

“The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is overwhelming. The loss and trauma inflicted on everyone there, the families, and first responders,” she wrote. “These were just little kids. I can’t express my sympathies enough to these families.”

The next month, Swift had to cancel three concerts in Vienna due to a terrorist threat. Two individuals were arrested for planning attacks inspired by the Islamic State group.

“Mentally, my reality is often surreal, but I must handle these feelings and perform. That’s how it has to be,” she explained.

After completing the European leg, Swift addressed the Vienna cancellations on social media.

“Canceling the Vienna shows was devastating,” she wrote on Instagram. “The cancellations brought fear and guilt, but I was grateful to the authorities. We grieved concerts, not lives. I saw love and unity among fans.”

Swift explained how she continued the tour after the threat was averted.

“I focused all my energy on protecting the nearly half a million fans attending the London shows,” she noted. “My team worked closely with stadium staff and authorities, and I thank them for their efforts.”
